New Orleans Regional Transit Authority officials say they may have to cut the Canal Street ferry's operating hours because of a budget shortfall.

The RTA is closing out 2023 with a $3 million budget gap.

If the funding can't be found by January 14, the Canal Street ferry's service hours will be reduced to 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day.

New Orleans has a large number of people working in the hospitality industry who don't go home until later in the evening, so they're worried about the prospect of shorter hours at the ferry.
