Officials in St. Tammany Parish say a strange, milky substance on the surface of an area lake is not dangerous.

What that substance is, however, is still not known.

Reports of a sewage-like odor and deceased wildlife near Moonraker Lake in Slidell were brought to the attention of state and local authorities, along with Magnolia Water.

No water or gas line leaks have been found, and testing shows the substance is not flammable and does not pose any threat to residents.

Further investigation is focused on natural possibilities, such as march bacteria, pockets of methane gas or a sinkhole.
