The New Orleans City Council is granting a reprieve to parklets, the outdoor streetside seating areas that multiplied in the city during the pandemic.

Council members unanimously approved a six-month moratorium on the enforcement of current regulations against parklets.

The Department of Public Works told neighborhood bars and restaurants earlier this summer that they had until August 31 to shut their parklets down.

There are about 40 permitted parklets in New Orleans.
