The USS Kidd will tentatively sail from Baton Rouge down the Mississippi to New Orleans for more than $6 million in renovations.

The 80-year-old warship is a popular tourist attraction, and its trip to New Orleans will be the first time it's left Baton Rouge since 1982.

Low water levels in the river have the ship sitting on its supports, which eventually causes damage.

How soon the Kidd will be able to go to New Orleans and back depends on when the river level rises again.
