The New Orleans City Council says Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office violated state law regarding political flyers sent out earlier this year.

According to Council President J.P. Morrell, the mayor's office bought and distributed the flyers with city funds, but never revealed the cost.

The flyers, which highlighted Cantrell's work in 2022, were distributed to more than 100,000 homes and reportedly cost about $50,000.

Investigators said Cantrell's office broke the law by using public money for the flyer campaign.

The mayor's Communications Director and Deputy Director will be subpoenaed to appear at a council meeting next month as the investigation continues.
