New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is filing two lawsuits over the decision to lower the number of signatures needed to trigger a recall election.

Cantrell is seeking to nullify the agreement to reduce the number of signatures in the recall effort against her by 5,000 and wants Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin to "show by what authority he negotiated" the agreement with the recall organizers.

Ardoin's office agreed to lower the signature threshold after the recall organizers filed a lawsuit claiming that about 30,000 names on the Orleans Parish voter rolls either died or moved out of the area.

Cantrell's attorney says Ardoin "acted without constitutional or legislative authority" in making the agreement.
