The New Orleans City Council is letting Mayor LaToya Cantrell know their thoughts on the search for Police Chief Shaun Ferguson's successor.

Cantrell sent a letter to the council last week inviting them to submit their suggestions by this Friday, and to meet with her before December 22 when Ferguson's resignation takes effect.

The council responded on Monday with the recommendation Cantrell appoint an interim chief, start a national search, and include council members in the process of finding a replacement.
