New Orleans City Council Questions Sheriff Over Jail Conditions

Sheriff Susan Hutson says at least six inmates face charges arising from the weekend's protest about conditions inside the parish jail.

Hutson appeared before the Criminal Justice Committee of the New Orleans City Council on Monday morning.

A Department of Corrections security team on Sunday forcibly removed a group of inmates who had barricaded themselves for three-days inside a high-security pod to protest conditions at the jail.

Council members questioned Hutson about her control of the jail, and her issues with transparency and communication concerning violence and disturbances at the lockup.
