State officials say at least five people have died in connection to this week's severe weather.

Gov. John Bel Edwards updated the death total yesterday after the Vermilion Parish Coroner said a 46-year-old man passed away when his vehicle crashed into floodwaters.

Authorities also linked three other deaths to vehicles overcome by flooding in Baton Rouge, Port Allen, and Calcasieu Parish.

In East Baton Rouge Parish, one person died when the storm knocked out power to their home, causing oxygen equipment to fail.
