Mayor LaToya Cantrell is refusing to show up to the city council's proposed hearings on the Hard Rock Hotel collapse.
On Tuesday, Mayor Cantrell issued a statement saying that she received the request from City Council President Helena Moreno and Councilman Jason Williams to have her staff attend the city council's hearings, but that they would not appear.
In the press release, Cantrell said that the council members' decision to hold hearings on the deadly collapse could delay the demolition and put the investigation into the causes of the collapse at risk.
The City Council meeting today will hold a vote on whether to begin hearings on the October collapse of the hotel that killed three workers and injured dozens more.
