Mayor Latoya Cantrell is demanding more funds for infrastructure projects.

After ribbon-cutting on a newly reinforced and highly resilient District 4 fire house, Cantrell said it is an example of progress being made on a backlog of FEMA projects she inherited when she became mayor.

During an interview with FOX 8, Cantrell said that after Hurricane Katrina, the city is in need of more infrastructure improvements provided there is adequate funding.

The city is getting millions in upfront and recurring dollars through a "fair-share" deal worked out with the state and the local tourism industry but more is needed.

Cantrell said the city's century-old pipes must be addressed and is pushing for passage of three propositions on the November 16th ballot.
