Evacuation Zone Expanded Around Hard Rock Hotel Collapse Site

City officials say they have expanded the evacuation zone around the site of the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel.

Data from assessments taken yesterday revealed the site to be more unstable than previously thought and warranted moving the evacuation zone past Canal Street between Burgundy Street and Elk Place.

Fire Chief Tim McConnell said both cranes at the site were heavily damaged, and his crews were working to stabilize them for the safety of search and rescue teams looking for anyone still trapped in the debris.
