Two aging youth prisons in Louisiana are one step closer to being replaced.

This week, the Governor approved a plan that would allocate $60 million for construction of the two prisons.

The Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe and Bridge City Center for Youth outside of New Orleans are decades old and have required costly maintenance because of their age.

Officials expect to save more than $8 million a year by closing Bridge City and Swanson and opening the two new facilities.
