Leon Cannizarro Wants To Penalize Parents As Way To Fight Juvenile Crime

The Orleans Parish District Attorney is outlining a way to help curb the rising amount of dangerous juvenile crime in the city.

Today he outlined accountability at different levels of the criminal justice system and called for the repeal of the federal oversight of the New Orleans Police Department.

The outline called for a curfew and truancy enforcement program, tougher punishment on repeat juvenile offenders and demand more supervision of youth by parents by possibly fining them for children's actions.

He also highlighted the need for more youth study centers and rehab programs, additional police manpower for patrol, expansion of the DA's juvenile division and putting the needs of the citizens ahead of political donors.
