Voters Will Decide On Jefferson Parish Teacher Raises In May

Voters in Jefferson Parish will decide if they want to pay more in property taxes to fund teacher pay raises next month.

The proposition would raise teachers' pay at Jefferson Parish public schools and increase the salary for school support staff. Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley says it's part of a specific spending plan he's outlined that goes hand in hand with his goal to raise the district from being C-rated to A-rated by 2024.

Brumley says by improving the quality of the education system, it will have a positive impact on healthcare, reducing crime rates and property values.

The property millage is on the May 4th ballot.
