An Orleans Parish Civil District judge is clearing the way for two black middle-school girls to return to school after being told by school officials not to return because they had braided hair extensions.
Christ the King Catholic School in Terrytown has a new policy allowing only natural hair. But, Judge Piper Griffin signed a temporary restraining order Thursday that will allow Tyrielle Davis and Faith Fennidy to return to school until the dispute is resolved.
Their families argue in a lawsuit that the school's policy is a constitutional violation because it singles out a hairstyle common to African-American children.
