State Budget Ball Now In Louisiana House's Court

The Louisiana Legislature has until midnight tonight to approve a new spending plan for the budget year that begins July 1st.

The ball is currently in the House's court after the Senate approved a budget plan Sunday that fully funds most programs threatened with cuts.

Some of the funding to cover those expenses would come from the retention of a half-cent of an expiring one cent sales tax and using more than $53 million in BP oil spill money to help offset operating expenses.

If there's no budget agreement by midnight, another special session on the budget will be required.
