Bus Driver Sentenced In Deadly 2016 Bus Crash

Gavel and scales of justice

A bus driver convicted in January on three counts of negligent homicide is headed to prison for 15 years.

That was the sentence handed yesterday to 38-year-old Denis Amaya-Rodriguez of Honduras by a judge in St. John the Baptist Parish.

He was at the wheel of a bus in August 2016 that was transporting passengers to Baton Rouge when it crashed into an earlier accident scene on the I-10 overpass in LaPlace, killing three people and injuring 41 others.
