Landrieu Updates Storm Prep As Cindy Approaches (VIDEO)

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is asking people in his city to be prepared as a tropical disturbance heads toward the Gulf Coast.

At a news conference today, Landrieu said there is no reason to panic, but it is hurricane season and the heaviest rains aren't expected until tomorrow and Thursday.

Landrieu is confident the city is better protected because of a new levee system, its pumping system and expertise developed from past experiences.

Landrieu warned that there was potential of surging tides, flooding, especially in low-lying areas, and possibly high winds if the storm worsens.

He said emergency plans are in place.
