Mandeville Residential Treatment Homes For Mentally Ill May Close

A lack of funds may cause three residential treatment homes for the mentally ill in Mandeville to close down.

The homes are operated by the St. Tammany Parish office of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Recent changes in federal funding allocation priorities have left the project with a budget deficit of some $350,000. Project director Nick Richard says there is very little time to round up that much money.

Twenty residents and 16 staffers would be impacted were the homes to close their doors at the end of this month.
