Rachael Johnson Wins Civil District Court Seat

Rachael Johnson has won election to the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

Johnson defeated "Suzy" Monterro in the general election on Saturday by capturing 56% of the vote. Johnson received 16.334 votes while Montero collected 14,152.

The new judge has been a senior staff attorney for Hartford Insurance. Her professional experience also includes work as an intern for Civil District Court Clerk Dale Atkins and a clerk for former Civil District Court Judge Nadine Ramsey who now serves on the New Orleans City Council.

Johnson holds a B.A. in psychology from Spelman College, an M.S.W. from Smith College, and a law degree from Tulane University.

The 40-year-old is the daughter of Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Johnson. She assumes the seat that former Civil District Judge Regina Bartholomew-Woods left when she won election last year to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal.
