The Mississippi Highway Patrol says a weekend motorcycle accident on Interstate 55 killed a Louisiana high school guidance counselor and her husband.
According to troopers, a Toyota passenger vehicle was southbound on I-55 Sunday afternoon when 57-year-old Samuel Speer Jr. of Lacombe, attempted to merge his motorcycle into traffic.
Troopers said Speer appeared to have failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he merged in front of the Toyota. The Toyota hit the rear of the motorcycle. The Harley was knocked into the cable in the median of I-55.
Samuel Speer and 57-year-old Carrie Speer, his passenger, were killed.
Carrie Speer was a guidance counselor for seniors at Slidell High School.
