Scalise Reacts To Sotloff Murder By Islamic State

Posted Wednesday, September 3rd 2014 @ 7am

Congressman Steve Scalise has reacted to the murder of a second U.S. journalist by Islamic State terrorists.

In an interview Wednesday morning on New Orleans Morning News, Scalise told host Gerry V. "You know, you get angry, you get just a heightened level of awareness that there are people around the world who just want to come and destroy America."

The video of the beheading of freelance reporter Steven Sotloff was released just two weeks after the video of the murder of another U.S. journalist, James Foley.

Scalise says he would support increased air strikes against Islamic State.

"Whatever the number is (airstrikes) you find them wherever they are in the world and you root them out and it doesn't mean you to put more boots on the ground," Scalise said.  "They can do these isolated strikes wherever these folks are."

"I've always supported the use of military force to make sure that we protect Americans here at home and these are people who made it clear that they want to come to the United States and do us harm and if we know where they are we ought to go root them out."

President Obama says the U.S. will build a coalition to "degrade and destroy" the group although has has not given a timeline for deciding on a strategy to go after the group in Syria.
