LISTEN: Gerry V Talks With Expert On Depression

Posted Tuesday, August 12th 2014 @ 12pm

With the possibility that depression could have played a role in the death of Robin Williams, many are wondering just what signs someone who is dealing with the disorder might display.

Lori Vann, licensed professional counselor and expert on suicide and depression, told 99.5 WRNO's Gerry V that symptoms can be different for each person.

However, Vann says there are some standard signs to look out for. "They are isolating, just pulling away from others. They're not participating in activities they used to enjoy. You see changes in sleep patterns, even eating habits."

"They just seem off their game," said Vann. "And then when you're looking at severe depression, it's all those things amplified."

Williams' publicist told The Hollywood Reporter that Williams "has been battling severe depression of late."

If you or someone you know may be having thoughts of taking their life, please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
