The city of Gretna is celebrating its 100th birthday with a series of events that begins Saturday.
Mayor Belinda Constant says the kickoff event is the Gretna Heritage Day Exhibition which runs from noon to 5pm Saturday at the Mel Ott Multi Purpose Center.
"With organizations all across the city participating and celebrating the history of our city and the 100 years of actually how we got to be who we are today," Constant said.
Centennial festivities continue on Tuesday, August 20, on the steps of City Hall, from 11am to 2pm.
"We have historical monologues that will be presented by characters Thomas Jefferson and our first mayor, John Ehret, as well as some entertainment from the oom pa pa band that celebrates german heritage, which is our heritage here in the city," Constant said.
