The general manager of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the New Orleans Arena says interior renovations underway at the Arena are expected to be finished on time, which is the beginning of October, and in time for a number of concerts scheduled for later in the month and the Pelicans' 2013-14 season.
Alan Freeman says the interior renovations are the first phase of a $50 million upgrade of the Arena that the state agreed to fund in return for the Hornets, now Pelicans, signing a long-term lease agreement.
"The goal of those upgrades, of course, are to provide better fan amenities but also to allow the basketball team to generate more funds so that they would not have to rely on state inducements," Freeman said.
"All the club rooms are being rebuilt, the suites are being refurbished. There are what we refer to as loge boxes being installed in the lower bowl of the building," Freeman said.
Plans also call for adding a bandstand/bar area. Players will also benefit as both the Pelicans and the Visitor's locker rooms will be expanded.
