A female motorist was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a charter bus on Interstate 10 in a marshy area of eastern New Orleans.
The crash occurred shortly after 10AM in the westbound lanes of the interstate near the Michoud Boulevard exit.
The victim apparently lost control of her Honda Accord as she was heading east on I-10 and began to hyrdoplane. The car crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes where it was struck by the charter bus. The driver of the bus kept the vehicle upright by steering it off the road and into a marshy area.
The bus was enroute to New Orleans from Crestview, Florida carrying 42 passengers including 5th graders and their chaperones.
The bus driver and two passengers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Okaloosa County Schools Deputy Superintendent Kaye McKinley says none of the students was hurt and a replacement bus picked them up.
